Regional Dialect Links
Below are links to most of the websites that we have looked at this week about regional dialects.
- Dictionary of American Regional English (This is the home page. You can click around to find the pages we explored.)
- Dialect Survey from University of Wisconsin – Madison (Click on “Maps and Results” to look at the different states.)
- International Dialects of English Archive (This one is from all over the world. Click on the region links to the right to narrow down to where you want to go.)
- National Map of American English Dialects (we didn’t look at this one much, but it gives you a lot of information on regional dialects)
- Dialect Map of U.S., Referenced (the “professional” dialect map)
- Dialect Map of U.S. (the non-professional, but more interesting, map)
- Beyond “Soda, Pop, or Coke”, Joshua Katz’s Regional Variation Interactive Maps
- Wikipedia List of English Dialects
Dialect Projects you can Participate in:
- Worldwide Accent Project (we didn’t look at this, but it is similar to the Regional Dialect Meme project)
- Regional Dialect Meme (This is posted on a “Know Your Meme” website, but gives instructions on how to do it. You can also search in YouTube for Regional Dialect Meme and get lots of results.)
- DARE Participation (The Dictionary of American Regional English is looking for responses to a few lexical questions. This page will show you how to respond and participate in building the DARE.)
